ShoveBox 1.6.1 is out, fixing several miscellaneous issues:
- Fixed crash that occurred when dragging PDF entries.
- Fixed 1.6 bug where organizer window position was not saved.
- The standard shortcut for “Paste and Match Style” (command-option-shift-V) now works.

got a suggestion for the desktop version- it’s awesome and all, but could you add a pane to the “organize” box that shows the contents of an item, instead of opening another box which is kinda messy? that pane could take the place of “date created”.

I’m trying to decide whether to get Yojimbo or Shovebox. I like how Shovebox looks and is always accessible over Yojimbo, which is always running in the dock. However, Yojimbo’s sync feature is pretty hard to beat when you have multiple Macs.
Is there any sync functionality planned for ShoveBox? It seems like if there was a way you could specify to ShoveBox where the database file resides, you could store it in a Dropbox folder and keep it synced that way. Any ideas?
Ted: Yes, sync functionality is planned. I’ve built a syncing engine that I’ve currently only applied to an upcoming iPhone version of ShoveBox. I just sent the first beta out to testers of the iPhone app and the new Mac version that syncs with it. When all the issues are ironed out of that, and it’s released, I will look at applying it to other types of syncing.

Wonderful app! Thank you for developing it. I wonder if there is a hotkey for being able to search? I find myself adding many things and then needing to quickly search for something. Perhaps you could make the search box focused by default when the organizer opens?
Regarding the Dropbox option, with other apps I have successfully done this:
- Copy the application’s folder that resides in Library/Application Support to the Dropbox folder.
- Create a symlink of the folder in the Dropbox location, the add the symlink to the Application Support folder and rename to match the original.
The only drawback is that some apps will get messed up if you run both at the same time, and since ShoveBox is an “all the time” running app, this might not work. Perhaps the dev can shed some light on this method for us.
With regards to using DropBox to sync ShoveBox, I wouldn’t recommend it because you would not have a way of merging changes made across several computers.
Right, the Dropbox method is definitely *not* a sync, but rather a way to store the app data in a central location accessible to two Macs. Like I mentioned, you cannot be running both at the same time.
I know for the to-do app Things, if you open the database with another Mac, it will screw up some iCal sync settings (it was designed to do so for security reasons, if you open on another Mac). The devs of Things actually support the use of Dropbox while they are working out the MobileMe sync features.
Just like to chime in on sync. I’m a heavy Yojimbo user and I’d consider jumping ship, as I like the layout and design and what not, but ONLY if you have a sync that’s compatible with .Mac/SyncTogether, or is its own thing of course. Can’t go back to not having sync.
