Today we’re introducing a new iPhone app that’s been in the works for the past 6 months or so, and almost two years in various forms.
It’s called Etude, and the best way to describe it is “sheet music on steroids.” It combines traditional sheet music with an on-screen keyboard whose keys light up to reveal the position of notes. The app also uses its own synthesizer to simultaneously play the piece aloud. It ships with access to an in-app music store that you can download new songs from.
Check it out and let us know what you think!

Hi –
Will this be a different app for the iPad, or are we buying the iPad-compatible app for $2.99?
If it is a different app, does buying this one entitle you to any kind of a discount on the iPad one?
Thanks -
Michael
Hi Michael,
Right now, it’s a different app, but this may change. Part of the reason is that the iPad version requires a slightly different format of music that we’re busy preparing the songs on the store in now.
